Basil Hayden’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon

I didn’t know exactly what I was getting into when I tried this whiskey, I’ve never heard of it or seen it before, but I decided to give it a go at a local bar because it had a decent price point. (~$35 for a bottle about $10 for the shot)
I was pleasantly surprised with all the flavor this had. It was definitely more than I expected and it kind of gave me a little punch in the mouth. This surprised me a little because the ABV (alcohol by volume) is the standard 40% (80 proof).
However, it sure did not taste like it.
This might not be a dram for someone who has never-ever had bourbon before, but there is definitely a lot of good flavor if you can get passed the burn.
Then again, after a few more drams the burn kind of makes your tongue all numb so then it doesn’t really bother you that much.
Now that I think about it, my face and whole body is a little numb. Wait…I’m starting to see flying rainbow unicorns and talking parrots!
Is that cloud smiling at me? And what’s with the floating mushrooms?
Am I trippin? WTF is in this shit?
Oh wait…nevermind…It’s just the roofy this lady slipped into my drink…whew!

Nose: rye, peppery, citrus, licorice, banana
Palate: butterscotch, lemon zest, citrus, vanilla, candy corn
Finish: short, spicy, vanilla, oak, brown sugar
