Finally got to try this beast!

It was a delicious punch in the throat…

Unfortunately at its price point on the secondary market (at $450+) its more like a kick in the NUTS!!!

Worth a try? YES

Worth the bottle? Nahhh….

(Again, just my humble opinion, so every calm the fuck down!)

I seeee yoouuuu!!!  I didnt even know this was available in the Bay Area yet.  It was such a nice surprise to see it out in the hunt.  They go for a little over $50 each so of course I had to grab 2, but still not sure if it was worth the price point especially since there are a lot of other good/similar bourbons out there.  But I guess it’s your decision!

Nose: Banana nut bread, vanilla, oak

The Whiskey Noob review Angels Envy

Angel's Envy: 10/10

This was the first whiskey when I started that I actually gave a 10/10. Easy to drink, good transitional whiskey, not the typical burn your face off/punch you in the throat feel you’d get from a shittier bourbon, but has a great flavor which is really enjoyable. It’s a great daily drinker but also a go to at a bar if they have it. Because it’s a bourbon its relatively on the more affordable side vs any single malt scotch and if you’re lucky you can find it for around $40. I say, just go out and grab a bottle to keep at home just cuz it’s THAT fuckin good!!!  To get this shit delivered fast right to you hit up saucey.com/angelsenvy cuz they got some gud shit that they can deliver straight to yo house!

Nose: vanilla, raisins, toffee

Palate: maple syrup, vanilla, toffee, toast

Finish: medium, sweet, vanilla, DE-LI-CIOUS!!!

Old Forester 1870: 5/10

20 bucks…that’s why I gave this a shot…20 bucks…and well…meeehhh…it was…drinkable. It’ll probably be good to mix because I definitely did not enjoy any of this, but at least it didn’t make me want to start a fire in the forest. There are better options out there for $20 like Buffalo Trace or Glen Moray (see Scotch Menu) that you can actually enjoy neat…soooo don’t settle guys…don’t be like me…I’ll do all the dirty work for you cuz I care…I’m THAT kinda guy…you are welcome society!

2 for 1

Balcones Single Malt Whiskey: 8.8/10
Whistle Pig 13 yr Boss Hog: 8.1/10

These 2 were provided by a friend’s BF which was a really nice gesture on his part. I’ve never heard of Blacones, but I was pleasantly surprised. Whistle Pig Boss Hog on the other hand, I have heard of and was a little disappointed. I know that the price point for the Boss Hog can get a little up there around the 2-3 hundred zone and I was expecting more I guess, but at least I didn’t have to shell out a grip for an ounce at a bar or invest all that in a bottle.

Balcones:

Nose: banana bread, vanilla

Palate: caramel, butterscotch, oak, apples

The Whiskey Noob review Bulleit Bourbon

Bulleit: 6/10

A very popular go-to for a lot of people I’ve talked to, I can see why. It’s widely available at almost every bar and its pretty damn cheap for a bottle (I’ve seen it for $15 once) But unfortunately, I’d rather enjoy this in a mixed drink with coke or in an old fashoin. I would actually recommend that when you do ask for a Manhattan you should ask specifically for Bulleit because it makes it better versus a bottom shelf bourbon they might throw into your drink. (just sayin…)  To get this bourbon delivered straight to yo house hit up: saucey.com/bulleit

Nose: vanilla, caramel, citrus, oak

Basil Hayden: 8/10

I didn’t know what I was getting into when I tried this, I’ve never heard of it or seen it before, but I decided to give it a go at a local bar because of its decent price point. I was pleasantly surprised about all the flavor this had. A little more than I expected and it kinda punched me in the mouth. Definitely not a dram for someone who’s never-ever had bourbon before, but there is definitely a lot of good flavor if you can get passed the burn.  Get this bourbon delivered straight to yo house!  Hit up saucey.com/basilhayden

The Whiskey Noob review 1792 small batch bourbon

1792 Small Batch: 7.5/10

You can find this little gem at almost any local liquor store and it’s a great value for the price for around $30-$35. Surprisingly well balanced with easy to drink for a noob who is still transitioning over from maybe a cognac or brandy background and not as much as a punch in the face as a scotch.  Click the link to get this delivered straight to yo house!  saucey.com/1792

Nose: vanilla, grapes, butterscotch, oak

Palate: citrus, orange peels, toffee, wood

Finish: long, spice, vanilla, orange

Eagle Rare: 8.3/10

Definitely a bourbon that you have to get used to due to the higher proof at (90 proof); however, once you can get passed the ethanol burn it is a very enjoyable bourbon with a lot of good flavor. You’re definitely going to have to let this one breathe once in your glass and it may be a little too strong for your first bourbon to try. Definitely a punch in the face for a noob.  Want this shit delivered straight to yo house?? Click the link to get this asap!!  saucey.com/eaglerare

Blantons: 8.3/10

If you want a good bourbon whiskey and want to impress someone at the same time, you order this shit from a decent bar. First of all the bottle looks all fancy-schmancy, plus, it tastes pretty damn good too!!! It’s a little pricier than a typical bottom shelf whiskey like a Bulleit or JD, but it’s well worth it. You will not be disappointed…pinkys up!!!  To get this shit delivered to yo fancy ass, click the link: saucey.com/blantons

Again…I emphasize GOOD, not great…even if it wasn’t at this price point the JAWS rating would still be the same…I NEVER take price point into account when rating my whiskies, but a 7.5/10 for $20??? why the fuck not! give it a try! Stagg Jr: 7.5/10

Here’s a nice little punch in the throat for you!  This shit’s about 130 proof (depending on the bottling) which you can even sense in the nose.  You can feel this all the way down to your stomach just burnin holes and shit, but it is pretty damn tasty.  Not really a bourbon for those who can’t handle a really strong burn from such a high proof whiskey, but it’s sure fun to try! soooo give it a go!!!

Nose: oak, vanilla, caramel

Palate: spice, butterscotch, Big Red gum

Finish: Long, cinnamon, spicy, nice long burn
